Dr. Jim's Practice

Dr. Schlichting was board certified in Neurology and Psychiatry in 1993 and received his doctoral degree in Psychology from Ryokan College in Los Angeles, California in July, 2010. In his neurology practice, he treats patients with neurological problems such as pinched nerves, painful peripheral neuropathy from diabetes or other conditions, and debilitating problems from multiple sclerosis. Such impairment can include difficulty walking, numbness in limbs, and dementia with problems in memory or behavior. Behavioral problems addressed include hallucinations, migraine headaches (sick headaches with accompanying nausea and visual problems).

He also integrates counseling in his treatment with patients experiencing depression or anxiety as a result of neurological conditions with chronic pain and debilitation. Another area in which he integrates counseling techniques is with patients that have experienced trauma and develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

An interest he is currently pursuing is mind-body medicine. Under this discipline is mindfulness, relaxation, and mind-sight therapy used at the UCLA medical center by Dr. Daniel Siegel. Mind-sight is a type of focused attention allowing us to see and benefit from the internal workings of our own minds. It has the potential to free us from patterns that affect our bodily response in a negative way, and prevents us from living our lives to the fullest.

Neurological services are provided at his office in Mesa, AZ.
